ALBUM: Drake – More Life

Drake’s newest release, More Life, could be argued as some of his best work to date. The 22 song project takes listeners on a musical journey as he effortlessly weaves through dancehall, soca, R&B and hip hop styles. The 30 year old MC/Singer describes, More Life, as “a playlist to give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life.” Is this just another clever marketing strategy or is Drake changing the way music is packaged and released? I personally think not calling the project an album allows him to explore new and different sounds without feeling boxed in by a traditional album format. Not to mention, he broke two Spotify records in the just the first 48 hours of the release, with many more to come, I’m sure.

Kendrick Lamar – The Heart Part 4

Hip Hop’s heavyweight, Kendrick Lamar releases a brand new single called, “The Heart Part 4”. The new song takes us on a journey with several beat switches and Kendrick’s ferocious wordplay, where he takes shots rumored to be at either Drake or Big Sean. All this after he wiped his Instagram account and posted a lone photo of the Roman numeral “IV”, which hints at a new album rumored to be dropping April 7th.

REZZ – I

Savior of Sound, REZZ digs up an oldie but goodie for a re-release collaboration with the brand, Versace. Originally released in 2014, the brand gives new life to the dark and glitchy track as part of their new campaign. You can now stream, “I” on Spotify as well as hear it on Versace’s new video campaign, Nowness.

Gorillaz – Andromeda (ft. D.R.A.M.)

The Gorillaz, that’s right, the Gorillaz drop their first single after a six-year hiatus. The new record, “Andromeda” features new wave rapper, D.R.A.M. as they serve up a club record that has a “weird sort of darkness about it”. The new single is part of a string of singles they released this week off their up coming album entitled, Humanz scheduled to arrive on April 28th.

Zayn – Still Got Time (ft. PartyNextDoor)

Zayn links up with PartyNextDoor for his latest release, “Still Got Time”. The new track is a dance-ready club track with some heavy Caribbean vibes. Look out for Zayn’s sophomore album, due out this summer.

Chris Lake – I Want You

Los Angeles-based producer, Chris Lake, releases his new single, “I Want You” on OWSLA’s new house project called, HOWSLA. This is the first release for the side project with a full compilation due out May 5th. The new single starts in usual house fashion with a knocking four-to-the-floor drum pattern as creepy vocals start to whisper the words “I want you and you want me too.” All this backed with a funky hollow sounding bass line and pitched synth leads.

Boombox Cartel – Alamo (ft. Shoffy)

DJ/Producer Boombox Cartel teams up with vocalist, Shoffy and record label, Mad Decent for his latest release, “Alamo”. The start of the track features a patient build up with big chords and smooth vocals that lead us straight to the drop where things get filthy with heavy bass and a screaming synth lead. Expect to hear this track in a bunch of DJ’s sets this festival season.

EP: Herobust – Vertebreaker

Known for his forward thinking trap production, super producer, Herobust releases his latest project, Vertebreaker EP. The Atlanta born producer says, “I always try to push the boundaries of bass music, but this time I really wanted the rap vibes to shine through as well. For those of us who think EDM has been missing some swag, the answer is here – the Vertebreaker EP.”

Borgeous Vs Riggi & Piros – Feel So Good

Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a wild ride. DJ Borgeous teams up with Riggi & Piros for this dance floor hit.

DJ Snake – Propaganda (Valentino Khan Remix)

Savior of Sound, Valentino Khan gives a hard-style twist to DJ Snake’s, “Propaganda” single. Prepare yourselves folks, it’s a banger!
